A fresh and clean bed contributes to a good night's sleep. And it's also just lovely to dive into a freshly made bed! But what's the best way to wash your bed linen? And how do you keep your bedding white and spotless, for example? In this blog, we share useful tips for taking optimal care of your sheets, pillows and comforters.
Before putting your bedding in the washing machine, it's important to check the care label. This indicates the temperature at which it can be washed. Most cotton sheets and duvet covers can be washed at 60 degrees, helping to kill bacteria and dust mites. Finer fabrics, such as linen or satin, often need to be washed at a lower temperature.
I always put my duvet covers in a laundry bag. This way, I prevent socks from getting into it or getting tangled, for example. Another advantage is that it protects delicate fabrics from wear and tear. We have large organic cotton laundry bags in 80x70 cm in our collection. The bag closes with a zipper that you slide under a case so it doesn't come loose or damage other laundry. They cost €9.95.
Bed linen comes into direct contact with the skin, so I always choose a mild and neutral detergent. This prevents skin irritations and allergic reactions. Avoid harsh detergents, as they can damage the fabric and shorten its lifespan. We have also made special organic detergent in the store for fragrance-free covers and sheets.
Do you want your bedding to smell great without using strong chemical fragrances? Then add a few drops of laundry perfume to your laundry. This gives your sheets a subtle, long-lasting scent. Make sure you don't use too much to prevent skin irritation. I personally like the wash perfume “fresh linen” by Dille & Kamille very nice.
Do you want your sheets and duvet covers to look extra neat and luxurious? Then iron them at a low temperature after washing. Always check the care label to see what temperature you can iron the fabric at. Not only does ironing help remove wrinkles, it also breaks down salt crystals, making the fabric feel softer and easier to absorb moisture. In addition, it contributes to hygiene, because the heat can kill bacteria and mites. Iron tip: Fold your cover in half and iron one side, fold the ironed side in half and iron the next side. Continue like this until it fits into the cabinet when folded, finally turn it over and iron the back. (note, do not iron the edges too hard otherwise you will get a clear diamond pattern on your cover) Of course you can also put it unironed in the closet and then iron the cover by the time you change your bed, you will certainly have no creases.

Weather permitting, let it dry outside in the sun, which provides a lovely fresh scent. The sun can also help remove stains. UV radiation acts as a natural bleach, allowing light discolouration to decrease without the use of harsh chemicals.
White bedding can take on a grey haze over time. To prevent this, you can add some sodium percarbonate to your laundry. This mild bleach helps effectively prevent stains and keep your white sheets radiant. Add one tablespoon to your regular detergent and wash at the recommended temperature for best results. NOTE: DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT ON COLORED LAUNDRY
With these tips, you can ensure that your bedding is not only clean, but also smells wonderfully fresh and lasts longer. Sleep well!
